Urs Umbricht appointed General
Manager at The Racha
Bangkok, 02 June 2003 – The Racha, Sanctuary
Resorts’ latest luxury all villa resort development
located just off the coast of Phuket has appointed Urs Umbricht
as its General Manager.
Urs, a Swiss national is no stranger to Thailand; having
been General Manager at the Blue Lagoon resort in Samui
over 7 years ago. Urs brings cultural understanding and
diversity to Racha Island; having been General Manager
in many overseas places including East Jerusalem, Kenya,
Koh Samui - Thailand, Rome and the Seychelles.
Andrew Jones, founder and Guardian
of Sanctuary Resorts noted that “Urs shares common values with Sanctuary
Resorts and his interest in environmental protection and
community development is in alignment with our own Vision
and Mission.” Michel van der Hoeven, who heads the
regional office in Bangkok adds that “Urs’ proven
track record on exceeding guest and associates’ expectations
will ensure that The Racha takes its rightful place amongst
Thailand’s top resorts”.
The Racha, with its 75 deluxe villas (some with private
pools), select food and beverage outlets and of a signature
Sanctuary Spa will open at the end of this year. Show villas
are available for viewing on Racha Island; which can be
reached by a 25 minute private speed boat trip from Phuket.

Sanctuary Resorts also manages the
award-winning The Balé in
Bali, which has just been ranked amongst the top 80 new
resorts by Conde Nast. Additionally, it has commenced construction
on Hotel de la Paix in Siem Reap as well as on Shinta Mani,
a non-fee paying vocational hotel institute in Siem Reap,
which will open in September.
